Every grade at Bala Vihar builds on the one before it — from a child's first prayers and songs at Pre-K, through the epics, scriptures, and the Bhagavad Geeta by high school. Here's what each grade studies.

A gentle introduction for our youngest students. Teachers instill a love of God and reverence for our culture through coloring, simple prayers, and songs and dances. Children learn to identify our deities and the qualities they represent — building bonds with teachers that last well beyond the school year.
Simple, fundamental values are taught through stories and coloring, alongside a first, age-appropriate introduction to the ideas of Vedanta — including the idea that just because something can't be seen doesn't mean it isn't there.
Students follow Lord Rama's path from childhood to marriage, exile, the war with Ravana, and his crowning as king — exploring the symbolism of the epic, including the three pairs of brothers and why Hanuman is considered the greatest devotee.
Students learn from Hanumanji, the Lord's great devotee, and the qualities that make for a strong backbone: courage, strength, fearlessness, alertness, and eloquence. The class studies the Hanuman Chalisa and its meaning — which students then teach their own parents.
Canto 10's Krishna Lila stories teach sharing, self-discipline, and introspection. With My 24 Teachers, students learn that patience, concentration, and wisdom can be found everywhere — from the mountains to the arrow-maker — if we're ready to see it.
As students learn U.S. history in school, this class builds pride in India's own rich history and its saints and sages — the civilization Mark Twain called the "Cradle of Civilization" — and explores the symbolism ancient rishis used for a healthy way of living.
Using the Mahabharata as a foundation, students explore what Dharma means and how to live by it, and begin to seriously analyze their own choices through the Law of Karma. Hindu Culture adds an overview of the Vedas, the 18 Puranas, Itihasa, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Geeta, yoga, and vegetarianism.
Prince Arjuna wavered at the moment he was needed most — and Krishna's teaching through the Gita speaks to us the same way. Students work through all 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Geeta, laying a foundation for their professional and spiritual lives ahead.
